Big business in Nova Scotia

Chris Cochrane, who last week wrote a negative piece about the Nova Scotia boxing commission regulating their first MMA show, finds himself humbled in his op-ed today for The Chronicle Herald newspaper in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Why is he humbled?
Cochrane reports that over 2,000 tickets for the 4/29 show have already been sold and that Halifax Forum general manager Al Driscoll thinks the show could be a sell-out. Cochrane also notes an underlying reason for why Canadian amateur boxing officials are not happy about the MMA event:
Prominent amateur boxing officials have already spoken out against mixed martial arts. There’s also grumbling in the pro boxing trenches because the NSBA has allowed the mixed martial arts card to take place only a couple of weeks before a proposed pro boxing show. The boxing supporters have pinned their hopes on that card sparking a comeback for the sport in Halifax, with veteran Jason Naugler making his home debut in the main event.
