Quote of the Year: Jared Shaw on growing up
By Zach Arnold | April 30, 2009
“On a personal level, I think I took on a lot of blame that (shouldn’t necessarily) have been pointed in my direction. I certainly had my faults like anybody else. There was a lot to deal with, being 28 years old at the time, it’s a lot just to understand as you grow up,” he said.
Speaking about the incident during the Kimbo/Petruzelli fight, Shaw compares the situation to what UFC president Dana White did recently when Anderson Silva fought Thales Leites to a five-round draw at UFC 97.
“Dana (White) and I don’t see eye to eye, but what he did last week was definitely on par with me standing up. I certainly didn’t go in a corner and shout at anyone, but I can understand the man,” said Shaw. “I can understand where your bread and butter is in your company, and you have a fighter who is not fighting the other way, and you have a fighter who is so superior, you want that fighter to take his head off. Especially cause you’re putting your company’s face on him.”
Jared Shaw was 28 years old… a year or two ago.
The idea that this man is using moral equivalency to place Kimbo Slice and Anderson Silva on the same level is amusing.
He wants back in the MMA business. Cock roaches!

Must be tough to have to grow up running a multi-million dollar company airing a live show on broadcast television.
Even if he had been 28, since when is 28 the new 18.
Funny how my anti-spam word is carny because I just found out something on DREAM.9’s card…Talk about freakshow.
I know it’s off topic Zach, but I think it’s newsworthy….To an extent.
According to the DREAM Official website:
Hong Man Choi vs Jose Canseco
Yes THAT Jose Canseco.
LOL! I love it.
Bob Sapp (200cm/147.6kg) vs. Minowaman (175cm/87kg)
Jan “The Giant” Nortje (211cm/149.5kg) vs. Sokoudjou (182cm/93kg)
Gegard Mousasi (186cm/97.8kg) vs. Mark Hunt (178cm/130.4kg)
Choi Hong Man (218cm/148.5kg) vs. Jose Canseco (188cm/109kg)

Haven’t seen too many bashers to the DREAM 9 card yet. Imagine if DREAM 9 was labeled UFC 99…. It would be getting bashed until the end of time.
I hate how they put freakshows and legit talent in the same tournament. It’s not even a sport over there.
First off, Jared Shaw is an idiot. Second off, I can’t help but laugh my ass off at that DREAM 9 card. Seriously, what the fuck?! Jose Canseco?!?! Fuck yeah! But seriously, the only semi-competitive match-ups are Gegard vs. Mark Hunt (that fight actually intrigues me) and Jan Nortje vs. Sokoudjou. The second fight only because Jan Nortje is so mediocre that Sokoudjou has a chance of beating him, even though Nortje is about 6’10”.
I’m not ashamed to say that I’m a fan of the freak fight on occasion.
I’m pulling for Canseco to close his eyes and land a haymaker for the win.
As for Jared “$kala” Shaw, this is about what I’d expect him to say in an interview. I was around him for a bit at an EliteXC show and he was attaching himself to fighters like a real fanboy. He hung around Jake Shields, Kit Cope and the Diaz brothers like they were his heroes.
45, it is impossible to be down on DREAM, that card is so awful that it’ll be great to watch for entertainment value.
It is embarrassing to the sport but hilarious.
I love me a good freak show on occasion. HMC vs. Canseco. ROFL. Oh man, I know I’ll be watching. How the heck did Canseco get himself involved in this circus? Didn’t think he’d go all the way to Japan to try MMA.
Jared just needs to shut up and wait for his daddy to have that massive heart attack that’s coming within 5 years to get his inheritance. Nobody is ever going to like you, Jared. So just be happy that you’re a spoiled brat. You’re Paris Hilton with a penis, accept it.
